The Danger Of Prescription Drug Abuse

by Leland Michaels

When you hear people talking about drug addiction problems, what do you think of immediately? It;s probably cocaine, alcohol, or maybe some other harmful drug.

These drugs kill a lot of people, but what about drugs that were actually meant to help people? What about prescription drugs?

Hospitals use prescription drugs all over the world for many reasons. Their are pain relief drugs, drugs for disorders of the psyche, and many other applications.

Prexription drugs are designed to help the sick or injured. But when they are abused, they are just as harmful and addictive as any other type of drug.

One reason that prescription drugs are so addictive is psychological. They are designed to help so it creates a mental trap for people.

It is widely understood that cocaine is a harmful and potentially fatal substance, so it scares many to stay away from it. But when your doctor prescribes you some little pain pills for your back trouble, you aren’t quite as intimidated. That makes it much easier to start abusing them.

A person addicted to prescription drugs is also far less likely to see that they have a problem because their doctor gave it to them. This means it is harder to kick the addiction.

Along those same lines, people don’t realize how harmful they can be. But you may be alarmed to find out that the majority of deaths from prescription drug abuse happen the very first time someone abuses them. So any time someone abuses prescription drugs may be their last.

If one of your loved ones has a problem with prescription drugs, help them immediately.
