Now that you have the list of prospect midwives, contact them to see if they are available for an interview. Sometimes it is also an option to do an interview online if the person is not available for a personal interview face to face. Due to booked schedules some midwives may not be able to accommodate you during your due date. It is very important to know first if they are available for that due date.

When you conduct an interview whether personal or online, you should have your partner sitting next to you. Part of the interview is airing your reasons why you want to give birth the natural way and in the comfort of your own home. Tell them if it’s going to be your first home birth or not. Allow the midwife to ask probing questions in order for her to be able to assess how she can be of help to you.

Prepare questions for your prospective midwife. Queries about certification,licensing and past experiences are good. Ask if she will have another person assisting her in her task. Be specific about things that you want or not want during your delivery. Do not be hesitant to ask about birth protocols and delivery procedures.
